Well, yes, mostly.
Except the Canes finished with 10 more points than you, and went 3-1-0 against you.
...And you just sent down one of your best point producers from last season for some reason. |

Wennberg will be back up opening night. Hopefully the canes can make it back to the playoffs. Missing last 7 years is horrible. |

Yes, and the Blue Jackets 2 playoff wins in the last 16 years are an astounding achievement. |

I do it for all teams.
Seriously though, It's a season preview blog. I simply stated my prediction for the team. Did the same thing for the Hawks and nobody there got all salty about it. |

Cool , in that case Canes will regress provided ,they took a big leap forward in the development of their young players (a la Avs and Flames) , Ward will further decline , and then they will be fighting with the cbj for who gets the first overall on some kid named nolan i dont give a damn. |

I just went to capfriendly and looked at the canes roster. Almost fell asleep reading who they had. |

Let's take it easy on Bingo! He's one of the better posters on here and I enjoy reading his stuff, especially when we have such a target-rich environment with all the haters on here.
Three points:
1. I believe the CBJ is good enough to make the playoffs and will make the playoffs, unless they have another rash of injuries.
2. Paul, I like your blog very much, but this one drives me nuts. If all these analytic guys are so good at predictions, why do we even play the season? Let's just save lots of people and cities tons of money, play the season on a PC, and spend 12 months arguing about Corsi, roster moves, and the draft. Saves everyone a lot of time. Maybe all the guys on this site that predict Edmonton and Arizona will be in the playoffs will be right after all if its done by stats.
Even analytics guys have biases that get into the data, and the one gentleman that had a range of points has it so large that its hard to see how he could miss. If Crosby is out for half the season with his concussion issues, will the Pens be within the range the number crunchers everyone has them in now?
Let's play 82 games and find out how wrong they are!
3. To all the Torts haters out there; many of you predicted he wouldn't finish out last season, but there he is. You may have distant memories that cause you to hate him, but give it a rest will you? It was reported often last year when he was hired that the front office had a discussion with him and that a few things had to change in how he did things if he wanted to stay in the NHL. And so far he seems to be a much different coach than he was with the Rangers.
The fact of the matter is that none of us is in the CBJ locker room, team meeting room, video room, or on the ice during practice. You and I have no idea how the team responds to him, or what the evaluation of him by the front office is. If he does his job well, the CBJ will win, and he keeps his job and you look silly for writing the snide remarks you write. If the CBJ loses, he's fired. If he has a Vancouver type meltdown he's fired. then you can make all the snide comments you want. Until then take a deep breath and lose your anger at the world for a while.

I think the low expectations are a good thing for this club right now. A lot of this season will come down to Bob. If he can stay healthy *knock on wood* I think this team makes the playoffs. The backline is much, much, much, much improved from the past few seasons and I think it's going to surprise a lot of people just how good they can be. |

So....projected lines has Gagner at center on the second line , not to be a negative Nancy , but that says alot about the slim depth of this team. How can Torts not have tested Jenner at center during the pre season.......he played the position in juniors and excelled at it... |

You are right, the games are played on the ice and of course anything can happen over a season with regards to injuries, slumps and unexpected strong performances. I get all that, but I just wanted to show some projections to set expectations for this team. Especially after last season where almost everyone had the Jackets in the playoffs. Looking back we were all maybe too optimistic on the team.
I really wanted to show that the Jackets have the talent to make the playoffs but going into the season expecting that may be a bit too much. As you said though, lets play 82 games and find out! |
